My doctor says I have borderline pulmonary hypertension. What can I do to avoid getting it?

03 Mar

I’ve been having chest heaviness and pains for several years now that have progressively gotten worse with each passing year. I never understood what it could be and all tests of my heart came back normal. Yet I have still had these strange and often painful feelings in my chest. Is it even possible to avoid getting this disease if I’m already having the symptoms that I have?

am I dying of liver failure?

03 Mar

Hey I am a 19 year old male. I was exposed to a high amount of naphtha fumes about 12 times in a short period of time. I am now showing scary signs/ I have not gone to a doctor because I have no money or insurence. My symptoms are portal hypertension ( I know from veins appearing in the back of my throat) prominent veins ( not to bad but more but can see my arteries in my arms more then usual) I think I have jaundice in the roof of my mouth, its a little yellowish. My urine was cloud for a bit but that has stopped. I have minor itching. Some adominal pain. My gums bleed randomly, Usualy towards night. It was bad before but then stopped for a bit then started again but is very light now. I did lose my apetite for a bit but now Im eating like normal again. I was depressed for a bit. Wasnt taking care of my self. Wasn’t bathing, grew a beard. But now I am fine. I am up and out riding my bike and enjoying nature. I dont really have problems with sleepyness, a little tired but nothing that will keep me from being active. My kidneys hurt a little time to time. I was having light colored foul smelling stool but that ended to. Im confused and stressed a little because it seems Im getting better but at the same time getting worse. As most of the symptoms I stated have faded. The prominent veins are new symptom. they come and go through the day. Ive done very extensive research so I know all the symptoms of liver problems. Ive stated all the symptoms I have. Its just that there is so so so much mixed info on the net. What I have been doing to treat my self is taking milk thistle, cranberry extract, pomigranent extract, flax seed oil, and once the following come in the mail Ill be doing them, castor oil therapy with a heating pad, dandelion extract and artichoke extract. I told my work Im not going to be in for a bit because Im very sick. I figure avoiding as much stress as possible is vital to recovery. Please only answer from people who really know what they are talking about. I know I should be going to a doctor. But there is no way I could afford it

Any mums had pregnancy induced Hypertension? If so, how did you deal with it? Any advice is appreciated!?

03 Mar

After struggling with everything for weeks on weeks I finally bit the bullet and went to the hospital to get checked out. When I first walked in my BP sat on 155/72 and doctors admitted me for the night. Under duress they let me go home at 5:30pm the next day after my BP settled down BUT as it keeps continuing to rise and symptoms accompany it during the day, the doctors believe I have P.I.H. I’ve been told to bedrest and although i am just exhausted and physically debilitated by this, i am having issues with handling it. I have 2 small children (3 and 2 turning 4 and 3 next week) and my house is atrocious! Any tips on handling this? Hubby is a great support but he cannot just stop work because i’m sick (especially since we are needing the money)

Preeclampsia with pregnancy, now possible Pulmonary Hypertension? PLEASE HELP!?

03 Mar

Hi! I am wondering if there is anyone else out there with the same situation??

(My daughter is now a happy, healthy 1 year old!) I developed severe preeclampsia in my third trimester of my pregnancy and had to have an emergency c-section due to fatally high blood pressures and a count of 4+ protein in my urine. After giving birth, I was given medication to lower my BP throughout a 6 week period. At my 6 week checkup, things seemed fine. It’s been almost a year since I gave birth (1 year on jan 23) and I have been having problems ever since I stopped taking those blood pressure medicines. My problems consist of chest pains, dizziness, short black outs, fatigue… all symptoms of pulmonary hypertension (consistently high blood pressure that, if left untreated, can become fatal). I get random chest pains, especially under my ribs. Dizziness is the worst… Any time i sit down and stand back up, no matter what the situation, i get dizzy and sometimes black out. I can’t even take showers standing up because I get dizzy, but when I am done with my shower and try to stand up to dry off, I immediately black out. There has not been one time that this doesn’t happen. Lately, it’s gotten worse to where I can be sitting down, totally at rest, and get dizzy. Fatigue is pretty often too. For most who will probably say this, I have not been to the doctor yet because I simply can’t afford it and don’t have insurance. However, I do have an appointment to get it checked out on the 15th of this month. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced something like this?? Im terrified of the outcome of this appointment! Thanks!
Oh man! Thanks for the advice.. Yeah, my doc had told me during my recovery that if I had missed my regular doc’s appt where they detected the Preeclampsia, neither my daughter nor I would have made it another week. I find out the 15th… Hopefully this doctor doesnt overlook it and blow it off as something minor when it’s really something major
I forgot to mention that I am 2 months shy of being 18 years old, so I am still very young. Also, my father (who had a heart attack and quadrupal bypass surgery at the age of 40) and his father’s side of his family has history of heart disease and hypertension, so im really not going to be surprised if I come up with it too.

Can pulmonary hypertension be diagnosed/ruled out through a CT scan?

01 Mar

I have had all of the symptoms of PPH for several weeks. Doctors have done an EKG (pulse was 118), chest x-rays, and a CT scan of my chest (ruling out pulmonary embollism). They also did a ton of blood work that all came back normal. I’m currently waiting to hear results of my blood sedementation test. They said they had no clue and I should just be relieved after the CT, but I’m not. Does anyone know if they could have already ruled out pulmonary hypertension?

Pregnancy Induced Hypertension–Do you suppose they’ll put me on bed rest?

28 Feb

Throughout this whole pregnancy, I’ve been fighting with high blood pressure. Luckily, I’ve never had any other symptoms to suggest preeclampsia (proteins in urine, blurred vision, extreme swelling, etc).

At my appointment yesterday, my blood pressure was extremely high (160/80), so the doctor sent me to the lab for blood work. She told me to “take it easy” at home and to come back in two days so they can check my blood pressure again. She said she may want to put me on bed rest.

I got a call today that all my blood work came back normal (thank goodness). Now, I’m wondering though–if my blood pressure is still high when I go in tomorrow, do you think she’ll still put me on bed rest??

I know your not doctors, I’m wondering if anybody has had experience with this. Keep in mind, I have not been diagnosed with preeclampsia because I don’t have other symptoms–only high blood pressure.

Oh–I’m 33 weeks today, if that makes a difference. Thanks so much!
