I always had very low blood pressure until menopause, so now I have no idea how they determine what is high blood pressure, Doesn’t it also have something to do with how far apart the numbers are as well as what the numbers are ?>

I turned 13 a few days ago, and my father, an EMT took my blood pressure today, it read 124/74. I went to a pediactric cardiologist a few weeks ago, and it was 168/80 or something like that. I was nervous then.
I am 133 pounds, and 5′4 1/2″. Is this normal? If not, is there anything besides cutting out salt that will help?
It was 168/80 because I thought they were going to tell me I needed heart surgery or something. I overreact. But any ways it is down now. Is the 124/74 normal? Or high?
The Thing is, the cardiologist said that the hole in my heart closed and the only reason I would need to see her is if we didnt have a family doctor to check my blood pressure…(We just moved).
She said it was high at 168/80 or whatever….but it was because I was nervous because it is 124/74, I just want to know if 124/74 is high for my age, height, weight.

The reason I’m asking is because for over a week now I haven’t been able to feel my right ring or pinky fingers. My dad has had similar trouble with numbness there and having seen him go through numerous surgeries, surgery is the last thing I want. I also tend to get sick when taking perscription meds, as I have really low blood pressure, and I don’t want to have to deal with those.

My grandmother is 75 years old and she was recently in the hospital due to low blood pressure, irregular heart beat, and fatigue. The doctors told her she needed to slow down or there may be a possible chance she can have a stroke.

My grandmother is very active and is always cooking for my family and moving around. She is always on her feet. She is 95 pounds and really slender. She is so stubborn though, she hates taking medicine or letting people help her. So there is no chance that she will go to yoga classes.

So I guess my question is: what are some natural and easy ways or acitivies to help reduce her blood pressure and prevent a stroke. I was think like a massage or plant therapy. I was trying to google activities that would make this fun for her so she wouldn’t look at it as someone trying to help or it being medicine but rather a fun thing she can do and at the same time it helps to improve her health.

Any ideas?

i am in my late 20’s, diagnosed with mitral valve regurg at age 12 and last week was diagnosed with chronic ischemic heart disease-coronary atherosclerosis ( CAD) and also unspecified essential hypertension…my blood pressure has been perfect my entire life until very recently and i’ve just in the past 6 months had the symptoms that made me go to my cardiologist last week that led to my CAD diagnosis.
my resting heart rate now is averaging about 115 and i could only last 5 minutes on the exercise nuclear stress test before i reached my max. heart rate…my bp today has gone from its lowest of 114/80 pulse 116 to the highest of 149/101 pulse 84…why would my pulse go down so much when my bp increased and vice versa? at one point today i was having intense chest pains and shortness of breath and my bp was 149/97 pulse 105…any knowledge on this would be appreciated! i go to my cardiodoc tuesday to discuss angiocardiography so if anyone knows about those, please share too! thanks!

I am 22 and today I had a doctor’s visit. I had my blood pressure high today and the doctor wants to check my blood pressure five times before he can diagnose it. I asked him if my overweight can be a cause of it and he said probably not and that it may be linked to the birth control method I was using (nuvaring). My height is 5′4 and my weight is 175.

my mom had a mini stroke and is still in the hospital. shes hypertensive, she was admitted after she fainted BP was 198/170 and in the hospital she had a mini stroke, they did cat scan and thought she had tumors in the brain, then they did and mri and then they said they were not tumors but her blood was very thick and forming clots and gave her blood thinners, the doctors dont say much and she has very swollen legs back and leg pain. Any of these symptoms sound familiar? does anyone know what could be wrong?

I have to give a presentation and want to take this out of the abstract so my listeners will get how dangerous high blood pressure is so they’ll be more motivated to do the right things to keep their blood pressure under control. My grandmother who is 84 years old is normally pretty active (still works part-time) and who lives alone had a recent abnormal lab value. She had a creatinine of 2.4 and BUN of 50. I am scared for her. We discovered this values after taking her to the doctor for a congested cough and some disorentation. She was diagnosed with “a bad case of bronchitis”. She has a history of diabetes and hypertension. She has no symptoms related to her kidneys. Do these levels get this elevated from just dehydration or does she has something underlying? As far as I know all of her electrolytes were okay with the expetion of a slightly hight potassium. If anyone, can give me some advice or an opinion on her lab values I would appreciate it. Thanks

I am a 30 year old female. I have had severe migranes in the past, which subsided when I was pregnant with my 3rd child. After she was born, I had high blood pressure and went onto prescription meds. During this time, I still get headaches, probably a side effect, but not migraines. My blood pressure is under control, but I am very sensitive to medicines. My meds are causing me to have a rapid heartbeat. My previous meds caused me to hallucinate and have nightmares and start to sleepwalk. Other meds I have been on caused me to have insomnia. I am so tired of being under a doctor’s care because it costs so much and the meds they give me always have a side effect and cause more problems. So I am looking for an herb that can help me with my high blood pressure, control my migranes, and it couldn’t hurt to lose some weight also. I don’t know if my problems come from a hormone problem, because it seems like it when my migranes was under control with my pregnancy. Any suggestions?
